In February 1959 while going to college, Charles Irwin started a part time job with Perfection Carpet Cleaners.  In the summer of 1960 he opened his own business, Irwin Carpet Service.  With contracts from  well known restaurants Vicks and El Fenix he was soon asked to recommend and install carpet for Vicks at various locations, thus getting him into sales as well as installations.  Through the years as manufacturing and backings changed, Charles continued to remain a specialist in imported European wool and hand made carpets. This was when the name was changed to Custom Installation Artist. 

In the 1970's Charles was a pioneer in installing onsite bordered and structured carpets and rugs.  His area of expertise remains in custom staircase runners, working with designers, home owners, and residential sales.
